I can honestly say that Christina and Sunjay’s wedding was perfect in so many ways! For me, it was perfect because it was one of the best weddings of the year for me in terms of my documentary style! I love the results of the wedding photos because Christina and Sunjay allowed me to photograph their wedding the best way I know how: as a wedding photojournalist! The moments that I was able to capture from this beautiful couple’s day wasn’t just because of me, however. They were both very much in love and it was evident from the first meeting I met them in my Birmingham showroom, just a couple of weeks before the wedding. It also was perfect because they had a great, end-of-the-summer day, as well as terrific locations for the ceremony and reception as a backdrop to my photography!

We began the day with getting ready photos at the Hyatt in Dearborn, Michigan. Both Christina and Sunjay had separate rooms to get ready in, but were just across the hall from one another. This provided an unusual advantage to me, because I often am only able to photograph just the bride before the wedding. My second photographer, David Yarnall, always photographs the guys. David did the second shooting for this wedding as well, but started at the church because I was able to photograph both the bride and the groom beforehand. From the hotel, I was able to drive with Christina and the girls to the ceremony location – Martha Mary Chapel at Greenfield Village. This historic, quaint and serene little chapel is definitely a fantastic place to have a wedding! It is like stepping back in history a couple of hundred years and the setting surrounding the chapel is something to behold! Honestly, it feels like a little country church someplace on the east coast!

After the ceremony, the couple, their family and wedding party climbed aboard horse-drawn carriages and we took a mini-tour around Greenfield Village. Our only stop was near a covered bridge, which was perfect for formal portraits. After the portraits, we headed over to the Henry Ford Museum where Christina and Sunjay’s guests were enjoying cocktail hour and waiting for the happy couple! Once we arrived, guests were seated, followed by an entertaining grand entrance, toasts, a slide show of the couple, and finally dinner. After dinner, everyone was entertained by a fantastic live band which had the guests dancing all evening long.
