Radhika and Paul are one of those couples who come along and you just feel like you’ve known them as friends for a long time! They are a great couple and complement each other very well! They are personable, warm and friendly! I got to know them back in the fall of 2011 when we met for their engagement session, and knew from that session that they were going to have a great wedding. Meeting their families during their three day wedding event confirmed to me how important the role of families play in making us who we are!
I was privileged to photograph all three days of this fantastic event. It began with the Mehindi ceremony, followed with the Sangeet the next day, and finally the wedding day. All in all, there was over twenty hours of photography. Because the celebration was so festive and joyful, time flew by! After the Mehindi on Friday at Radhika’s parents’ home, the Sangeet took place at the MGM Grand Hotel in downtown Detroit on Saturday evening. The night was filled with performances from family and friends with the bride and groom front and center to the dance floor. Dancing followed well into evening.
Finally the wedding day arrived. We met up with Radhika early Sunday morning in preparation for her marriage ceremony at the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel. After a “first look” between Radhika and Paul and a few portraits around the Westin, the Baraat followed with Paul arriving on a beautiful white horse to greet Radhika’s family. Finally the ceremony began in a majestic ballroom within the hotel. Beautiful and colorful flowers adorned the room in abundance as Radhika was escorted by her father to join Paul and both sets of families on the Mandap. The ceremony was filled with beautiful and meaningful Hindu traditions. Seeing Radhika and Paul become husband and wife was a wonderful sight to behold!
After the ceremony and family portraits, there was a few hours to have some fun around town prior to the evening reception. A party bus was rented for the wedding party and we all headed over to Comerica Park – where the Detroit Tigers play baseball. Because of one of Paul’s groomsmen who was able to make arrangements, we had the good fortune of finding ourselves inside the empty stadium! Everyone was ecstatic! We were able to do a variety of fun portraits on the dugout, inside the dugout and even down in the bull pen where the relief pitchers watch the game! That was definitely a wedding highlight for me, a lifelong Tiger fan!
We were dropped off at the MGM Grand Hotel to relax for a time and for Radhika, Paul and the wedding party to change into their evening attire. I must say, Radhika was a stunning bride! She was beautiful and radiant! Finally, the evening festivities arrived…and it was a “grand” event indeed! The grand ballroom was beautifully decorated with floral arrangements, exquisite table settings, colorful lighting and a white dance floor. The evening began with a fun-filled grand entrance of the wedding party and families. Festive dancing began immediately following the entrance to add excitement to the room. The evening followed with heartfelt toasts to the couple, cake cutting, and the traditional first dance. After Radhika danced with her father, and Paul with his mother, the guests flooded the dance floor for to celebrate the nuptials of this happy couple!
The day could not have been a success without the wonderful planning of Rajul Pillai of Blissful Weddings and Events. My good friend, Alex Bitoff and his crew from Fifth and Main Productions, provided the fantastic filming of the wedding!
