I met Kaelyn and Joe about a year prior to their wedding. They were coming from nearby Ohio, back to Kaelyn’s home state of Michigan, just beginning to plan their wedding. It seems that most of my couples fall into this category these days: living out of state due to careers but coming back to Michigan to celebrate the wedding because the bride’s family, relatives and friends are mostly here. Every wedding I photograph usually has something about it that is memorable to me. In Kaelyn and Joe’s wedding, there were several! Not only are they a terrific couple, happy, in love, and very fun to be around; but also what stands out in my time with them is how loving and supportive their families are! It’s not like this is a rarity but it just stood out to me in a way that it left an impression! It was obvious to me how important both sets of families are to Kaelyn and Joe, from that very first meeting to the wedding day, and they were a joy to photograph! One particularly memorable happening was Kaelyn’s sister toasting her at the reception. Rather than give a speech, Kaelyn was serenaded to a song (I can’t remember the name), with the lyrics rewritten describing their relationship growing up as sisters! It not only was a surprise to Kaelyn, but it was one of the best toasts I have ever witnessed! Everyone in the room (about 300 guests) was glued to every word and were in laughter and tears!
The wedding ceremony took place at the beautiful Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament. The reception was at the historic and stately Detroit Athletic Club. Both locations are among Detroit’s finest! The wedding could not have been a success without the planning and coordination of Mood Events by Mikki Gardner-Mood and Shannon Conlan. The entertainment at the reception was by, the one and only, Simone Vitale Band. Video was provided by my good friend Alex Bitof of Fifth and Main Productions.
