Katherine and Patrick’s wedding day was my first Michigan wedding this year. I usually get started in mid to late May here, so I was excited to get started early! You never know what you are going to get with Michigan weather, as this is the time of year that Winter and Spring are arm wrestling for dominance! I guess Spring won because it was a beautiful, sunny day!
I first met this couple last Fall to photograph their engagement session. I bring it up now, because it was a memorable one! Katherine flew in from out of state to participate. She made the long journey, had a her hair and makeup done professionally, and she, Patrick and their two beautiful Huskies drove an hour to meet me for the shoot. Only for the rain to begin pouring down! We braved the weather, and I must say, accomplished some of the best e-session photos (that was inclusive of pets) I have ever done!
Finally the wedding day had arrived, and it began and ended at one of my favorite Detroit venues, the historic Detroit Athletic Club. Usually, there is only time for me to photograph the bride getting ready, but because Katherine and Patrick were at the same location, I was able to photograph them both. This allowed us to have my second photographer start later at the church and work later into the reception, which was an added bonus. Katherine and Patrick decided to see one another before the ceremony, so we staged a first look between them and were able to accomplish some additional portraits of their wedding party early. We had a lot of fun, because we actually were able to get outside, walk past Comerica Park and end up at St. John’s Episcopal Church, the location of the ceremony. You can see some of those photos below.
After the ceremony, we headed back to the DAC for the cocktail hour and reception. Prior to the couple joining their guests for drinks, we snuck up to the famous roof top that overlooks the Detroit Tiger’s baseball field and city skyline. We had a fun session up there, with the wind blowing Katherine’s veil, adding to the romantic mood on the roof top! You can see more of these photos in a highlight slideshow I created by clicking HERE.
The wedding was a blast from start to finish! Katherine, in particular, had an infectious smile, like the one above, that lights up all of my photographs! It was a great wedding to kick of my season for the Detroit area! This would not have been possible without the expertise of the wedding planning services of Jen House and A Moment In Time Wedding and Event Production, as well as Jennifer Gillary and the whole fabulous DAC staff!
