From the Sangeet celebration the night before, to the Baraat and marriage ceremonies the day after, Niharika and Aman’s beautiful wedding was held entirely at the stately Henry Hotel in Dearborn, Michigan. Once again, I had the pleasure of working with Rajul Pillai and her staff from Blissful Weddings and Events, one of metro Detroit’s premier wedding planners. This wedding was as stunning as I have seen, complete with indoor fireworks and abundantly, gorgeous floral arrangements and decor. Above all this splendor, Niharika and Aman were a storybook couple and could grace the cover of any wedding magazine.
I began the day photographing Niharika and her wedding party getting ready at The Henry. My long time second photographer, David Yarnall, began a short time later with Aman in his room, preparing for the Baraat ceremony, and his ride on horse and buggy to meet the parents of his bride-to-be. We have been honored to photograph many Indian weddings these past few years, and I can honestly say “they never get boring!” The Baraat in particular is a fantastic tradition with music, dancing and excitement that sets the celebration in motion for the entire day! I never tire of the festive music, dancing guests, and smiling faces! The photo opportunities are literally in every direction!
Aman was then escorted to the Mandap, the cite of the marriage ceremony, by Niharika’s mother and father. The aisle way was a raised platform, like a runway for a fashion show. It was adorned with glass vases filled with water and floating, burning candles. Once Aman was seated with the priest, some final rituals were performed prior to the entrance of the bride. Finally, Niharika made her entrance to the delight of her groom-to-be! Every guest was in awe as this beautiful young lady made her way toward the Mandap. Ninety minutes later, after many rituals and gift exchanges, the wedding ceremony came to a close, but a new marriage arose and the celebration continued!
Prior to changing into new attire, Niharika, Aman and I headed over to the nearby Henry Ford Museum. Thankfully, my good friend and Events Manager at the Henry Ford Museum, Christina Dodge, was on site. She graciously made last minute arrangements to allow us to wander around the museum so that we could get some special photos of the couple. You can see some of these photos by checking out the collection of photos I have assembled into a highlight slideshow of the unfolding story of the day by clicking >>>HERE<<<
The remainder of the day was one to remember! In addition to the couple changing into new outfits for the evening’s events, followed by the couple dancing their way into the reception with everyone on their feet, they were met with a surprise! While cutting the cake, the room exploded into a real firework display that caught everyone off guard. It was spectacular, and rivaled any Las Vegas stage show you would see! Personally, I have never seen anything like it before! This, of course, set the stage for an extraordinary night of toasting, choreographed dancing, and endless fun for all the guests celebrating this happy couple!
