WOW!!! The colors….the energy…..the emotion…..the traditions…..the “””FUN!!!””” this wedding produced!!!!
Meet Shoshana and Sapan. Their wedding was an amazing combination of two cultures perfectly blended into a fantastic day! (Actually a fantastic WEEK, as they held a few ceremonies prior to the wedding day that we were privileged to experience and photograph).
The wedding day began with an early wake-up and the ladies having their hair and makeup beginning around 7:30am. Sapan, in the meantime, was ready for the Baraat by jumping in a classic 1960’s mustang as his “horse” for this traditional ceremony in which the elders of both families meet. There was dancing, music, color and FUN flooding the streets around Cobo hall with nearly 450 guests! The sky gave a few sprinkles, but nothing big enough to dampen the mood there….
The ceremony (as well as evening reception) both were held in the newly renovated, and grand extension of Cobo Hall, overlooking the Detroit River. This is the first time that our team has had the honor of photographing an event here! What an awesome scene: the Detroit skyline, the People Mover, and the Ambassador Bridge were all within eyesight as the guests were ushered inside and seated. Shoshana’s entrance on her Uncle’s arm to the beautifully adorned mandap was stunning…..And the moment Sapan saw her for the first time brought tears to everyone in the hall! After their beautiful Hindu ceremony and a few family portraits, the guests were all ushered out to a HUGE surprise for their midday events. They were treated to a ride on the “Detroit Princess” for lunch, and a gorgeous Buddhist ceremony honoring Shoshana’s side of the family. Again, the colors were amazing! The couple changed into beautiful vibrant yellow traditional attire, and the wedding party into their respective festive colors.
Upon docking back at Cobo Hall, the couple had a few hours to retire, while preparations were being made for the “grand finale” dinner and dancing. And after a few hours and yet another change of attire, Sapan greeted his stunning bride in the foyer of the Crowne Plaza. This time she wore an incredible violet and gold embroidered gown, the bridesmaids in a brilliant coral shade, and the groomsmen in a cool grey…. We did some fun portraits with the Detroit people mover and around Hart Plaza!
A lively cocktail hour was unfolding while Shoshana and Sapan prepared for their GRAND entrance as husband and wife….As soon as the giant doors were opened to the banquet hall, they rose from the “depths” of Cobo hall on a gorgeously adorned stage in a dramatic rising display!!! The evening began with cutting of the wedding cake, and some beautifully (and comically) choreographed speeches and dances….. The couple each had a surprise for each other in the dancing department and there were a few traditional dances preformed as well!
The whole wedding week was absolutely incredible to photograph, and we certainly had a difficult time narrowing down the selection to give to Shoshana and Sapan in their gallery….We know it will be a difficult process for them to choose the photos for their album ~ in fact, multiple volumes might be necessary! 😉
Thank you, Shoshana and Sapan, for giving us the honor of documenting your wedding story!!! It is one we thoroughly enjoyed and will not soon forget!!!
