FAQ

ARE YOU WILLING TO TRAVEL FOR DESTINATION WEDDINGS AND ABROAD?

I am more than willing to travel to your destination, nationally or abroad, to photograph your wedding. Travel fees are minimal.

DO YOU PHOTOGRAPH ENGAGEMENT SESSIONS?

Yes. I love to do engagment sessions with my clients. It is a good opportunity to break the ice with each other and for you to see a preview of how I work. The engagement sessions are fun and relaxed. I like to say I am going out on a date with the two of you! The goal of the session is to spend about an hour to ninety minutes with you in a location where the two of you can be yourselves, hang out, window shop, enjoy an outdoor cafe, anything you like to do!

DO YOU BRING A SECOND SHOOTER TO THE WEDDING AND WHY?

I do, but only if needed. I commission experienced wedding photographers who have trained with me personally if you decide a second photographer is needed. Fees are additional.

WHAT IS USUALLY THE TOTAL NUMBER OF HOURS NEEDED FOR PHOTOGRAPHY?

Commissions begin at six hours and go up to twelve hours. Six hours is usually not enough, but rather a starting point. Nine to ten hours usually meets the need of my average client. Personally, I love full day coverage the most. It provides me with more opportunities to capture the true story of the day and it gives an opportunity for the bride, groom and family to get used to my documentary approach prior to arriving at the ceremony.

DO YOU DO FORMAL OR GROUP PORTRAITS?

Yes. I typically require that they be done at one specific time of the day and in one location. I also recommend that you keep the number at or below ten different groupings. I am happy to accomodate you, however, if you desire more. I have found that a good time estimate for doing the formal portraits is about three minutes per group or individual.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?

As shown in all of my samples on this website: documentary, candid, very artistic and full of emotion.

WILL YOU DO FUN AND ROMANTIC PHOTOS OF THE BRIDE AND GROOM IF TIME PERMITS? ARE YOU WILLING TO DO A “DAY BEFORE” OR A “DAY AFTER” SESSION WITH THE COUPLE?

I am more than happy to provide the couple with a session (time permitted) where I set the stage in an optimum location for lighting and background considerations. This is especially true for destination weddings. A trend that I have enjoyed in the last couple of years is photographing the couple and wedding party in a downtown, urban setting, with the cityscape in the background. Photographing the couple the day before or the day after the wedding can provide more opportunities for intimate and creative imagery, rather than trying to photograph with time limitations on the wedding day.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT WEDDINGS YOU ENJOY THE MOST?

I love photographing people who are obviously in love. A wedding day has a gamut of emotions, especially among those who enjoy life, who have the love of family and friends around them and who are especially not afraid to show emotion. Couples who are deeply in love and who love life in general are wonderful to photograph because the opportunities are limitless for me to find and capture.

I also love the fact that every wedding is different: different people, personalities, locations, differences socially and economically, different religious pursuasions, etc. Because of the vast array of differences found at each wedding and with each couple, it is impossible for me to become stagnant creatively and technically as a photographer.

WHAT HAS YOUR EXPERIENCE AS A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER TAUGHT YOU?

That there is always something worth photographing at every given moment. There is never “nothing” going on. There are also better angles, more interesting compositions, and other opportunities for lighting in every situation, so never stop moving and searching for the perfect photograph!

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF YOU GET SICK ON THE DAY OF OUR WEDDING?

I am human and one day an injury or serious family issue could prevent me from photographing a wedding. With that in mind, I am personally associated with a network of very talented photographers across the country and belong to a number of professional organizations. I can draw upon these resources to ensure that you will have a high-caliber professional to cover for me in the event that I am unable to photograph your wedding.

WHAT DO YOU WEAR AT A WEDDING? WHAT ABOUT YOUR ASSISTANTS?

It depends on your event. If black tie is required of your guests, I wear my tux. If not, I like to wear dark dress pants and a dress shirt. On less formal settings, like a beach wedding, I will ask you what is the expected attire of your guests so that I don’t stand out. My goal is to be unobtrusive during the day so that I can blend into the crowd and find great candid moments. My assistants usually wear a pair of black pants and a black shirt with a collar. If the wedding requires a tie, the assistants have ties to put on.

WHAT IS YOUR TURN AROUND TIME AFTER THE WEDDING?

You will receive your images online about 6 weeks after your wedding date.

CAN WE GET OUR DIGITAL JPGS/NEGATIVES?

Yes. Our Signature Collections include them and you can purchase them for an addional fee if you book with us on our starting “basic coverage” package.

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF PHOTOS YOU PROVIDE IN THE COLLECTION OF PROOFS?

I typically photograph around 100 images per hour that are edited down from the total images photographed. I edit out all the blinks, strange expressions, misfires, redundant images, etc. We have also found that approximately 800 images is about the most our clients have the desire to sort through. The biggest difficulty for you is narrowing down your proofs to the actual set of images you want to be added to your album.

WHAT KIND OF WEDDING ALBUM DO YOU PROVIDE? DO YOU PROVIDE CREATIVE DIGITAL ALBUMS PROVIDED BY GRAPHIC ARTISTS?

I offer the very exquisite and high quality Leather Craftsmen line of albums. I also offer a starter album by Zookbinders, called a Photobook Plus.
